Thank you for visiting Union County Elementary web page. Our school is located in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia. We have approximately 600 students in grades three through five. Our curriculum includes academic areas as well as art, music, STEM lab, writing and physical education. Our school has received the highest Title I ranking possible since 2007. We are currently a Title I Rewards School and have a “10” ranking on Great Schools.org.
Our students work very hard to do their very best, and we enjoy having fun as well. Students participate in field trips including the Young Harris College Planetarium, Young Harris College Theater, University of Georgia Mountain Research and Education Center, and other fun places to learn. Our students participate in Positive Behavior Supports and receive numerous rewards including celebrations of success every grading period.
I have served as the principal at UCES since 2007. I was previously a special education teacher at Union County Schools. I am married to Jerry Cook and have three children, who are very big now! My oldest daughter, Robin Smith, graduated from the Medical College of Georgia and is a medical scientist. Misty Jones, my middle daughter, is a second grade teacher at Union County Primary School. Jeff Cook, my one and only son, is a senior at Young Harris College earning a degree in Science. He served one term in the Army, which included a year in Afghanistan. I love to help students do their very best. With the experience of my own three children, I have had an opportunity to understand the challenges school brings to different kinds of learners. I am blessed to have the opportunity to serve the students and parents of Union County.
